You can block Yahoo IM using your router firewall option. Yahoo Messenger with Voice will work if any one of these TCP ports are open:
5061
443
80

You cannot close outgoing 443 and 80 as they are used by all web site. You need to use combination of these ports and yahoo Messenger server IP address.

However I use a program called IM Lock which Block all sort IM => Download here http://www.comvigo.com/

You can get list of all other free program => http://www.google.com/search?q=block+yahoo+messenger

Note this requires understanding of TCP/IP and firewall.

Open your router admin menu by visiting http://192.168.1.1/main.html

Click on Advanced Setup

Select Security

Select IP Filtering

Select Outgoing

Click on Add button

Set Filter Name: Yahoo
Protocol: TCP
Destination IP address:

Add following all IP ranges
24.71.200.68/32 204.71.202.73/32 204.71.200.0/24
204.71.177.35/32 204.71.202.59/32 204.71.202.58/32 216.115.105.214/32
204.71.201.47/32 204.71.201.48/32 216.115.105.215/32
216.136.172.221/32

If you think this is too complicated use software as suggested by chimu.

No no don't use or try out Airtel 220bx Modem firewall it is too complicated and bugyy too. Last time I did it and I lost all connectivity. Finally, I called Airtel; they come and restore / reset router.

Then I had installed Norton Internet Security 2003. It automatically prompted when connected first time and I said block. The easiest software to use and it comes with all computers or new motherboard otherwise you know where to find it

I think zone alarm also has an option for blocking out Yahoo messenger
