Default USB Port Blocking / Read only Acces on Windows

Dear All,

I want to Disable USB ports on Windows 2000/XP systems. I want to give only Read only access. I don't want to disable USB ports from BIOS. Is there any free software for doing this?

Regards,
Raju

start -> run -> cmd -> regedit -> search for USB -> set write/read value to 0 from 1 or from blank which reads "object is set USB to write mode." or something.
yes "REGEDIT" is a free software. regedit comes with all windows, IMO embedded ce winxp too :-p since windows 98.

Default usb block in window xp

Hello dear,

This is a little tricky usb to read only mode.. but it works..

go run, type regedit ,then go to hkey_local_machine/ system /current control set/control

right click on that and new key... StorageDevicePolicies

in the right pane,
new DWORD Value, name it WriteProtect, double click on that and give its value to 1,and ok.. logout and login again..
