when i am using this command
rsync -avz /somedirectory/somefiles.* root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:ml/

i am getting this error messages

rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer (104)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(604) [sender=2.6.9]

and when i am suing this command

rsync -avz /somedirectory/somefiles.* root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxml/

building file list ... done

sent 113 bytes received 16 bytes 258.00 bytes/sec
total size is 308 speedup is 2.39

this happens, but nothing updation on target network system directory.

Pl. can any on tell me

what is the difference between these two commands
what is the exect solution for this.

I see that there is an extra colon ( in between root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and xml.

kasimani,

the rsync man-page explains the differnce between the two of them.

when using the extra colon( , the local rsync daemon( from which you are connecting) will connect to the remote daemon directly. you need to make sure that both the local and remote machines have the rsync daemon running.

when you use only the single colon, you use rsync thru a remote shell connection.

just try the options listed in the man-page and let us know.

that's the problem with me by using extra colon,
i am trying to connect the daemon on the remote server, and when i am giving the password or password through a file, the error message is

this is problem,

and when using single colon , then i have to provide full path like this
rsync -avz /data/ibnlive/web/html/xml/sms/*.xml ibn@202.87.54.236:/dirname/maindir/

it donesn;t give any error, and the prob is solved, but i am strucking on why the privious command firing error message even the daemon is running on both server and the passwd is also correct.


give me some cluse pl.
