Thread: High httpd processes

Hi

I have few webserver running Centos.
We have huge database too on the same server.

Sometimes httpd processes hit max number that is 256 and this affects perfomance of our website.user dont get to login during such event.
So I just restart httpd service.

What could be the possible reason for this sudden peak in httpd processes?
What is the solution to bring them down.

You need to optimize the apache service on your httpd configuration to get it resolved.

If you are using mpm preforf,

StartServers 50 MinSpareServers 15 MaxSpareServers 30 MaxClients 225 MaxRequestsPerChild 4000

and you can search google about this.

Set small timeout value

Use tool such as top, vmstat, sar and others to find out what causing sudden increase in httpd process.
