Default How to register Linux machines to DNS server..

We have Linux machines in our network that I would like to register their hostnames with my main DNS server running on Windows 2003. Windows clients can do this automatically or manually with ipconfig /registerdns. How do I do the equivalent in Linux? These are static IP's. I could add the DNS entries on the Windows side manually as well, but the count of Linux machines are huge...

As most of my companies Linux clients are Ubuntu.. i posted in this forum, if you feel not related.. plz move to appropriate sub-forum.

Check out dhclient.conf dhcp client. It has limited support for Dynamic Dns
Code:
send fqdn.fqdn "client06.example.com.";
send fqdn.encoded on;
send fqdn.server-update off;

Hay Nix.. i am not clear what you mention.. can you point me to any doc on this?
And one more thing.. most of the Linux machines are not using dhcp to get ip add.. they are assigned manually..
