Thread: Shutdown command show warnning message

hello
I need to shutdown all my computer in my network at 4:30 pm
I can use cron job for that but i need to send message to users at 4:28 tell hime that "the computer will shutdown after 2 minutes "
is there is any way to do that ?

Use wall command in a script and call it from your script or cron

wall <<EOF
the computer will shutdown after 2 minutes
EOF

shutdown command itself has an option:

shutdown TIME MESSAGE

To shutdown computer at 6:45pm, enter:

shutdown -h 18:45 "Server is going down for maintenance"

but that will display message in terminal
but i need to display message in x window(Gnome)

Use notify-send or zenity command to display message to gnome or kde GUI.
