Thread: Ubuntu Netgear WG111 USB 2.0 Adaptor Driver Installtion

hi!
i have just installed ubuntu 9.10 on my sons new pc that i built!
ubuntu installed without a hitch but i need to get his wireless internet con. working.
i have a netgear dg834g router with a wg111 usb 2.0 adaptor
when i plugged it in,it started to search but did not ind a connection.
what do i need to do to get it to work?
any help is appreciated!

You mentioned that it started to scan. So are you seeing the netgear router in the wifi lists? And when you try to connect it fails?

Or are you not able to see the wifi router from the list?

no..it started to look but found nothing
i think i need to set it up in network configs
similar to windows but not sure were to find info
by the way i have ubuntu on my own pc and it works perfectly but it is a wired connection,the router is connected to mine

It is not supported out of box. Usually, windows only device do not work, but some device can be worked if you know how to install and compile few things. Take a look at the following page.

Before doing anything else read Ndiswrapper which allows to run many windows driver under Linux:

ive followed your links about downloading ndiswrapper
windows didnt recognise it of course
but i went on to my own ubuntu and downloaded it fine
all ive got to do now is to get it on to my son`s pc
ill let you know how i get on
