Thread: Mounting iso files to install directly

Hey guys... im a newbie to linux and am trying to install a game i have downloaded. I used to use windows and with a program called magic disc i could mount the iso image and load the game without having to burn any disc's.

I'm just wondering if such software exists for linux ultimate 2.2

If not how can i get round having to burn it on to disc to be able to install the game..

Any info wud be much appreciated

where do i need to have the file saved and could you give me a quick help with how to use terminal lol sorry about all the questions lol am really new to this and am finding it hard adapting to the change frm windows

You've to be more specific. Can you specify your error message and commands you are typing?

These are the commands im writing

sudo su
mdkir -p /home/lee/Desktop/The Sims 3 + EXTRAS/The Sims 3 - Razor1911
mount -o loop rzr.sim3.iso /home/lee/Desktop/The Sims 3 + EXTRAS/The Sims 3 - Razor1911

all this does is bring me up a list of commands i can do within mount... could you please give me a step guide how to load it from where i have it stored lol

This is the file location - /home/lee/Desktop/The Sims 3 + EXTRAS/The Sims 3 - Razor1911
And the iso file is called rzr-sim3.iso

please please any info wud be so gratefull... a step by step guide from the biggening would be super awsome... sorry again to sound like apleb just really new to this

Usually you need to type

sudo bash
mkdir -p /mnt/cd
mount -o /path/to/isofile.iso /mnt/cd
cd /mnt/cd
ls -l
pwd
cp file /to/somewhere/else

If there are blank spaces in a file name either escape them using \ or put in double quotes. Try it out and let us know.. if there are any error paste it back here

Cheers mate ive finally got into the disc lol

having another problem now.. some of the files are highlithed in blue and when copied says ommitting directory... when im installing the game its asking me for these files but cant seem to get it to pull it off the disc... any idea's ???

You can use cp as follows to copy all files to a directory called

/usr/games/foo
cd /mnt/cd
cp -avr * /usr/games/foo

Another option is to use GUI based file manager to copy and paste the files. Click on Place > Computer > File system > mnt > cd .
Once there just copy all files pressing CTRL+A and CTRL+C to copy all files.

Then go to destination folder and hit CTRL+V to paste files.
