Default iscsi SAN connections

I am starting the process of setting up a couple VM hosts that use an iSCSI SAN for a (100gb) Volume for files and a (100gb) Volume for database files. I have connected them to the san an formatted the drives. the issue I see now is it doesnt appear that the targets are pointing to the same piece of the SAN.

I have 2 VM's setup and mounted the partitions mentioned above but when I create a simple fille on one VM, I cannot see that file on the other VM and those files should be the same...

Ex. I created a www (touch) under /var/www (mounted to /dev/sdc1) on VM#1. I then go to VM#2 and look in the /var/www directory and the file I created is not there.

I am a rookie with Linux so be gentle with me...

thanks in advance.

They are on different VM, so you will not able to see the files. If you need to see files or dir share them using NFS

Yes, they are on different VM's however they are pointing to the same target. I mounted /var/www on both VM's to the web volume on the SAN. So I am naturally thinking that they would be able to see the same data.

So are you saying that when I format the volumes on the Ubuntu VM, chose nfs for the file type and not EXT3?

You can not connect multiple servers / VM to a single iSCSI LUN. However, You can use same LUN for both VMS using cluster aware file system such as OCFS2 / GFS. ext3 is not useful for this kind of work.

This is known problem with same LUN / Target.
  1. VM#1, VM#2, VM#N (limited by your device capcity)
  2. VM clustering on each VM
  3. GFS (google it)
  4. Use fanout (google it) and ssh keys (google it) for repetitive tasks
Once configured all of the above, you should now be able to create files on one of the VM node in the cluster, and have the files appear right away on all the other nodes in the cluster.

WOW!!!

Thanks for the reply... I am looking into this. Like I said, I am a newbie so this may take some time. I guess what I also want to know is if this is the best way to accomplish what we are trying to do. Maybe that will come out in the discovery process.

Thanks,
