Default LTSP server boot

Hi,
I am running LTSP server in Ubuntu Hardy Heron. For a long time this worked perfectly but I can no longer boot into the GUI after logging in at the Ubuntu screen on the thin client. All that happens is that I get a blank screen with a mouse pointer. I get the following error in the client username's .xsession-errors file:

SESSION_MANAGER=local/mark-desktop:/tmp/.ICE-unix/8216
** Message: another SSH agent is running at: /tmp/ssh-xCJGdO8187/agent.8187
x-session-manager: Fatal IO error 2 (No such file or directory) on X server localhost:12.0.
gnome-settings-daemon: Fatal IO error 0 (Success) on X server localhost:12.0.
Xsession: X session started for test at Thu Nov 27 13:23:11 GMT 2008
Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_US.
Start IM through /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/all_ALL linked to /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default.

I would appreciate any help on understanding the error and trying to fix it. Thanks

Did you updated software or made any changes to current configurations?

Well, what actually happened is that I didn't use my computer for one month. When I turned it on after this time it suffered major hardware failure and now has a different motherboard and graphics card. Ever since then, LTSP has failed to work. There have been the usual Ubuntu updates added since it last worked, but I did a clean install of hardy without updates and it still didn't work. I even tried it in Intrepid Ibex, still didn't work and I have returned to Hardy because it is just faster and more reliable. The login is successful, the username and password is accepted but, but the x session never loads. I have cruised various forums and can't find references to the same thing happening.

Anyone know the resolution to this issue? Just happened to me today on a fresh install of Ubuntu LTSP.

Thanks

Hi, I possibly have found a solution as yesterday I finally got it to load up the GDM after months of trying. It seems the problem is related to gnome and the way the LTSP in the past took care of killing processes
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...sp/+bug/232532
the problem was only in Gnome and KDE users were fine as far as I am aware. I am told by the LTSP people on the #ltsp IRC channel that all that should be fixed from Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, which might be true now but wasn't when I tried several months ago. I never had this problem on GUtsy Gibbon. However, over the weekend I gave the new Janty Jackalope aplpha a test out of desperation and it didn't work, but the previous errors are gone. In fact there were no errors listed in the .xession-errors file.Yesterday, there were some updates to the LTSP server packages and when I tried it, it worked. Hopefully it will stay that way in future and no changes will be made to break it, but you can't bank on it.

I will second the answer. After getting my server online properly through a remote session from a client, I ran the updates (over 200 of them). After those updates I rebooted the machine and was able to log in to the server with no problems.
