Usually server is installed without GUI, so it is better if you installed mplayer to play mp3 and other stuff. Do you have GUI installed? If so you can use either beep-media-player or xmms. Type the following to install them (open terminal and type):
Code:
sudo apt-get install beep-media-player xmms vlc mplayer
It will install all players for you. You can play them from command prompt itself:
Code:
mplayer *.mp3
Or start it by visiting Applications > Sound and Video > Player-name
