I installed vmware on redhat and it works fine. I installed that from source code so I think that must work in debian as well.Can you tell me what exactly problem u are facing. One more thing you can download and install vmware player in ubuntu using apt-get command.

installing VMware in ubuntu not too difficult, just double click the .deb file and install library that they request

I have problem when i compile, it says vmmon is not build for your current version of kernel.
