use passwd command, you must login as root:
Code:
passwd
Provide old password and input new password twice and you are done!

Hi,

thanks..

if old passwd is known then i can reset with passwd command, but if password is lost and want to set a new password how to do it..

Default

You need to boot from floppy or CD or in single user mode and mount partitions and run passwd command.

Yes , you must need to boot your system in single user mode.
