Thread: What is the monitoring tool you are using for Solaris UNIX?

Q.) What is the monitoring tool you are using ? I said ,BIG BROTHER Tool.

What do you monitor in that tool ? I said, C.P.U Utilization,I/O Operations,Network Failures etc..,
Then Interviewer asked, you said you will monitor Network failure through the tool. Then how do you get Alerts in that tool ? Can you explain it,?
Then i could not answer the monitoring tool question.

What are the types of Alerts you can see in the Monitoring tool ?

We have many monitoring tools,the best are
i) Ip monitor
ii) Nagios
iii) BMC

Nagios is open source just google it for more details.

We monitor the health and status of the server
For Ex.. CPU Load, Disk space, Available memory, swap space etc...

How do you get Alerts in that tool ? Can you explain it,?
All these tools are configured in the servers by Level3/Senior Sys Admins..
These tools are capable of pulling data from the server and displaying it in UI, such that whenever a service goes down an alert pops up in UI
