Default couldn't detect the hard disk geometry - the disk has a working windows xp pro

How come solaris couldn't detect the geometry of a hard disk which has a working OS of winxp pro.

If it is, then is it due to the different OS that the partition information is stored in different location?

When I type '"format" it is shown as below,

c3d1 < drive type unknown>
/pci@0,0/pci-ide@1f,1/ide@0/cmdk@1,0

I was quite puzzled at this one, since it is unknown to Solaris, that means, Solaris wouldn't know the disk structure, however, i could mount it as ntfs-3g and copy files onto it.

Anyone here can explain this and would be much appreciated!

Thanks...
