I've always wanted to do it. But I don't have access to a Sun Solaris box nor do I have enough RAM on my laptop to install Solaris. So..if someone can grant shell access, it'd be a great help. Thanx.

That's great. I asked one of my friends, who's a solaris admin, about keyboard compatibility. He said that it depends on how old the box is. According to him only newer (< 5yrs ) sun boxes work with ordinary PC keyboards. Same with monitors. He said that they need a vga to sun converter or something if you wanna plug a "normal" monitor to it.

Oh yeah I forgot about serial console. According to my friend, serial console is enabled by default on all Sun hardware. You'll need a null modem cable to do that.

Try this: Using Serial Consoles - (Solaris / Linux)

I don't have much experience working with serial consoles. So can't help much.

Don't know what this sparc box is all about, are you guys talking about a system to run the Solaris. Well, I use a virtual machine on my system, very much like the real one. does all I want it to

Yeah, an emulator like qemu will do fine. But I don't have enough RAM. Just 256MB

I am talking about the sun hardware based on sparc processor.Office all solaris are supported on this hardware like IBM support aix on p series hardaware and HP Ux support on HP servers.
About the vm I am using currently Solaris 9 on vm only but it does not give full functionality like open Boot Prompt.
