Default Xorg: Slackware nVidia geforce 8800GT Configuration

I think Slack is really cool. I wanted to get into Slack earlier but I had trouble configuring Xorg. It looks so ugly with the wrong resolution. I was disheartened and put it to the side for a long while. I am ready to try again but I need help from you guys.
What is the easiest way to configure Xorg on a 24" wide LCD? I have a nVidia geforce 8800GT.

The best way is to download nvidia driver from the official site.

Shutdown Xorg by droping to a single user mode:
Code:
init 1
Backup existing /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /root
Code:
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /root/xorg.conf
Unpack and install the driver. It will prompt for settings and select appropriate screen size and other stuff. Start X again by switching to level # 3:
Code:
init 3

Yes slackware seems fun if you have time to kill. You can get driver from nvidia official website.

You can also build slackware package yourself (Yes welcome to slackware!). Get nvidia slackbuild script from slackbuids.org.

If you need detail instructions, the slackware nvidia tutorial seems related.

Good luck!
