    Unhappy Can't get internet working on dell inspiron 6000 laptop

    Well... a friend of mine gave me his broken computer and said if I could get it workin it was mine. [its a dell inspiron 6000]
    well the problem was it had no harddrive to make a long story shorter I got a Linux live cd [linux 2.6.16] Its Boot Fine!
    but I can't get internet I'v tried everything I could think of,
    tring to connecting it to the router, & so on.
    can anyone help me out?

    I suggest you get latest Ubuntu Live cd. It comes with updated kernel and driver. This may just solve your problem. BTW, how do you connect to the Internets? Via Ethernet/Wifi? In any case Linux must detect your Wifi or Ethernet card. The lspci command will give us more info:

    My Dad has a computer hooked up to "comcast DSL cable"
    [thats how I get online]
    and I have a router that I'v been trying to use for my busted computer.

    This is a wireless card and it is supported on the Linux out of the box. Do you've a wireless router connected to your dad's cable modem (some cable modem comes with inbuilt wireless too)?
