    Default What does "." (dot) Mean in Linux?

    I've got a scavenger hunt to do for class, it is NOT for points, just a way to discover Ubuntu. its like 600 questions (don't worry, I'm only asking ones i cant figure out :) I've got like 200+ answered already. I'm gonna ask as i come across them.

    What does “.” Mean?

    . means the current directory.

    .. means the parent directory. So when you type cd.., you will move one level up. When you type cp /etc/resolv.conf . , you will copy file /etc/resolv.conf in the current directory.
