Default Difference between Unix and Redhat Linux

I am using redhat and centos for some time and i want to ask question that what is the main diff between unix and redhat linux? centos is free but redhat is not. unix is also not free. you need to purchase computer from hp or ibm. my boss says unix is only for database and for high end security. can any one tell me more.
