    Default difference /home and /export/home

    what is the difference between /home and /export/home

    i cannot change permissions on /home. i tried disabling autofs and commented /etc/auto_home and /etc/auto_master, but still get error that i cannot change permission on /home.

    whereas no problem creating dir in /export/home.

    any idea gurus ?

    /home, /net by default set as an automatic NFS mounting service point. If you want to create /home/username dir just like Linux or BSD you must disable the automounter service:
    Code:
    svcadm disable autofs
    You also need to remove /home entry from from /etc/auto_master and restart autofs
    Code:
    svcadm restart autofs

    This has been a common mistake with many new UNIX sys admins. You must always reload or restart service whenever you make changes. One my faiorate hack is
    Code:
    service something restart && tail -f /var/log/messages
    rndc reload && tail -f /var/log/bind.log
