Lvm

I am trying to determine which volumegroup a file is on. For instance I might have several LV from several VG's mounted in different locations. I was hoping to find a simple solution but since I can have mount points in LVs and could possibly have a chain several LV deep, probably not. Can someone possibly point me in the right direction?
