Just a reminder, I am not sure you can run Squid over it though. If you need to run Squid, you can try something like PFSense (pfSense Open Source Firewall Distribution - Home), although it doesn't allow you to do ip/user wise traffic shaping.

Cool squid not limiting bandwidth for users

hi everyone!!!
my squid proxy is not limiting bandwidth for users...
my sample squid.conf file is as follows:-

acl magicwords url_regex -i .rpm .exe .iso .avi .mp3 .tar.gz .tar

delay_pools 1
delay_class 1 2
delay_parameters 1 5000/15000 5000/15000
delay_access allow magicwords

now when i start downloading(from one of the client machine an .iso or .rpm file its downloading proceeds at the same rate as before at around 230 kbps...
but it should have been actually reduced to 5 kbps after 15 kb of download as per my understanding...

can anyone help me out...

i do not understand what you are trying to say...i have read at many places that if u do this configuration in squid.conf u r there to limit the bandwidth...
