Default ldap on linux RHEL 5

we have this server in our network that is not in production as of yet, I need to get step by step help on how to provide the linux server with single sign on to authenticate it to our LDAP directory. how do i do this. I need step by step instructions how do i download the software, install it and confirm that it is installed.
