I created a RAMFS of size 5 MB, and started filling data into that.

When it exceeds 5 MB there is no alert / error.

It is going up to the size of RAM available. So it makes the system to hang.

How to identify when the RAMFS got filled ?? I want to stop writing when the RAMFS got filled.

plus, are you using busybox? and ext2,ext3 for ramfs or romfs then dont use ext2/3 they use journalling flag option. try jffs or readonly filesystems like LZMA where you dont have +w option i.e. its simple +r else i am not sure unless i get the right info.
