Default Raising File Descriptors

Hi
I am using RedHat Linux 9.0 with its built in kernel 2.4.I am runing netcafe and are using squid as a proxy server on linux.I want to get Maximum Performence from my system thats why i want to know that how can the File Descriptors of the system can be raised for system and squid.

You are using outdated insecure version. Go to centos.org and grab latest stable 5.2 version. It is redhat like but free version.
