Thread: Upgrade of Open SSH on RHEL 5

Hello everyone,
I am newbie in Linux System Administration. I need help in one of the issue I have to resolve. My company is using SFTP server (using open ssh 4.3). They want to jail root the users in their home directories. So I suggested them to upgrade to open ssh 5.2 which supports jail rooting of servers.
But I want to know if we upgrade the open ssh version, the certificates they are using are going to change?? Because they dont want to change the certificates and keys, I need to search for another solution. Please guide me in this regard.

RHEL does not provides the latest version upgrade via RHN. You need to download and install from source code or 3rd party. I'd suggest you use vsftpd + chroot + tls/ssl which is fully supported RHEL 5.

thanks for the suggestion. I did alot of research for the upgrade of openssh and even talked with RH guys, but its really pain job to do that. vsftpd and ssl is good solution for my problem. I have a small doubt regarding the keys and certificates.
Do we really need to create certificates or creating keys for encryption is good enough? My company wants to skip the certificates and just want to use the keys for encryption purposes. Also can we use the same keys we created for SFTP( from openssh) to work with openssl?
