Default Snapgear SG300 getting an ip address not in the configured range

Hi

I am looking to do a maintenance to one of my client.

He have got a network environment windows and Linux connected to Snap Gear router SG300.

And the WAN port (internet port) of SG300 is connected to a LAN port of a Netgear ADSL DG834 V3 (in bridge mode = ADSL modem only)

SG300 LAN ip address : 192.168.0.1, WAN port (internet port) is public ip address , LAN range that was used is : 192.168.0.x/24

By looking at this snap shot from SG300 I found that the router has an ip address

10.20.20.146 as gateway
Code:

I can ping this ip address,,,I believe it is configured by my broadband provider ,,,why ?

I have not seen other ADSL providers have private ip addresses on a customer router.

Thanks

Some provider does this for management purpose. Others run out of IPs so they setup private IPs. Locally here BSNL does this to all customers.

1- Do u mean that each customer would have public ip address and private ip address assigned to his/her router ? ,,,,,this is what I have got in the snapshot.

I have got two ip address for internet port gateway private address and public address, in my contract I suppose to have static public ip address ,,,,if many customers sharing same public ip address would that satisfy my contract ?

No not all customer will get public IP. This is an addon with some ISP. Sometime they give it free or you have to purchase it. I've no idea about your ISP. With public IP you can run your own webserver or something else. Some provider give 5 or 8 public ip if you commit for high speed with 1 year contract and so on. This all depends upon money.

I'm not sure I get you. What do you mean by " I suppose to have static public ip address"? If ISP provided you a few more public IP you can assign them to other server and route it via router. Otherwise NAT is used to route traffic from LAN to ISP gateway and to the Internet.

I mean when my client signed the contract with ADSL provider he payed extra to get an static ip (ie public ip address not private) address from the provider.
