Question Reset Router Password / Configuration

Good Morning,

I has a router that I can login to, but two weeks ago I lost the ADSL password. My friends recommend me to use javascript to reveal password on the password box but I don't know how. My router is Linksys WAP45G2 with PPPoE connection, i can login to that router, but i can't show the password. I already open the source code of that page, but I only knows that there are field called PPPoEPassword. My friend says that i shall type the javascript.show<FieldName> function on the address bas while i'm opening the page that contains password box. I get stuck here.

Also there are an other router that I can login to. Branded "BILLLIONTON", I can't find any password box field name there, even that I has already opened the page that contains the password box there, but I found that it shows an other page on that page, on the source code, I found that I should view the source code of "../status/status_deviceinfo.htm" to know the password box field name. Where I can open it, my router's IP is 192.168.1.254. Shall I open 192.168.1.254/status/status_deviceinfo.htm ? (But it doesn't work)

Without Wax,

Malikussaid.

If you have forgotten your router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.

Just hold the reset button on the device for 30 seconds and it will go back to factory settings. Now you need to reconfigure your router.

Usually, username and the default password is "admin".

Post More Detailed Info...

Good Morning,

I've told you that I can login to the router, but i can't retrieve the ADSL password, I've already accessed the router configuration page, but the password is hidden in ***** characters. That's the problem. When I open the source code of that page, I've found that the router uses JavaScript to protect the password, and my friends recommend me to uses javascript.show function. But, I don't know how to use that function. Is there any JavaScript master in this forum ? I'm sure there is. But I'm arguing that they want to help me.

For my secondary router, the brand is "BILLION", not "BILLIONTON" like I've told, for that I would to say sorry. When I open the source code of the router configuration page that contains password box, I've found that it refers to a page, the page address is "../status/status_deviceinfo.htm". My question is, what does ".." refers to ? Is it refers to the router's IP address ?

Without Wax,

Malikussaid

My bad I did not read it properly. Here is what I will do if I forgot ADSL/DSL ISP password:
+ Call ISP tech support and ask them to reset it for me.

+ Some router supports telnet and ssh. Since you know router password use it as follows (this is advance option and you must know Linux / UNIX command to move around). Also some ISP and router provider disable this options, YMMV:
  1. telnet router.ip
  2. Login with your username / password
  3. Go to /etc directory. You will have to go through few files to find out password.

Good Morning,

Thank you for your answer on second question, it works.

But the first question still a problem to me. I have called my ISP, and them ask me for some registration information, I provide that information, them give me new password, and I reject their help. Because I can't change the router password, I can only view it. This is because my router is always online, and to change the password the link is must disconnected, and as IT administrator, one of my job is to assure 99,75% always on connection. The ISP said that them cannot give me the password, they can only change it. Help me please...

Download Password Viewer 1.4 - Password Viewer is a Windows utility that allows you to view password fields - Softpedia

If you are windows, use the tool above to peek on the password. HTH

Red face Thank You

Good Noon,

Thank you for your help, but I has solved this problem on weekend. I use IE asterisk shower or such things. It's like your solution, but I haven't read it when i do it. So thanks to everyone.

And what YMMV means?

Without Wax,

Malikussaid

YMMV - Your mileage may vary; often used in forum talk meaning that your results will vary. Like you used different software to solve the problem.
