Default Best way to edit static routes in linux?

I need to change a static route in linux. Should delete and add back in the change or edit the network scripts file?

Default

Make changes to network configuration file (static routing config file) and not to the network scripts.

  1. Redhat / CentOS / Fedora user should edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0 for eth0
  2. Debian / Ubuntu user should edit /etc/network/interfaces
