Exclamation Can't ping host_name

Problem: Not pinging my host name on other system on the same subnet ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

In our LAn My Linux machine and other machines has static IP address defined
I added hostname and my systems ip address in /etc/hosts (RHEL 4), I set up DNS server
Here are results of various ping tests:
|
ping to my Ip address on my system itself : both using Ip address & host name =YES
ping to internet domain name and address =yes
- Linux systems on the same subnet - with my host name =NO !
it is showing host name not found.
- Linux systems on the same subnet - with my address =yes !
- Systems on different subnet - using both address and host name = NO

You have not configured dns properly so it is not working. Are you using a BIND software?

Default Can't ping host_name

DNS is already running. Actually iam able to ping to world with host name I added only host name in the guy in Network settings. Why there is no ARP brodcast happens to DNS. I added in /etc/resolv the dns address.
and the embedded device on the same subnet I configured the name-server. It is pinging world with host name. My host name is not pinging.
