Problem: Not pinging my host name on other system on the same subnet ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------- In our LAn My Linux machine and other machines has static IP address defined I added hostname and my systems ip address in /etc/hosts (RHEL 4), I set up DNS server Here are results of various ping tests: | ping to my Ip address on my system itself : both using Ip address & host name =YES ping to internet domain name and address =yes - Linux systems on the same subnet - with my host name =NO ! it is showing host name not found. - Linux systems on the same subnet - with my address =yes ! - Systems on different subnet - using both address and host name = NO Last edited by vijendra; 10-10-2008 at 10:17 PM.
