Default Email Server, suggestions?

Hi!

I'm new to these forums, but ran across them last week while searching for online help with my situation.

I currently have an older Compaq desktop (basically gutted and now has a 3.4GHz P4, 2GB RAM, updated mobo, graphics card, gigabit NIC, and a smaller sized Raptor HDD). I work for a summer theater camp that is possibly looking to split from the local recreation commission to start our own company in a sense. I suggested the idea of building an email server now that would cost next to nothing to run so that everyone is on a centralized contact system. This server would run in my basement (assuming that I can use port 25 through my ISP, and then the 50+ employees would all connect through Microsoft Outlook or something similar from their home computers.

My question to everyone is: What should I use software-wise, and how do I go about setting it all up? If someone could help me personally or link me to a thorough step-by-step that would be fantastic! I've been using this link to get a start, but it still is a little vague. Any help would be appreciated!

For complete mail server your ISP should allow following ports:
port 25 - SMTP server - Software Postfix SMTP server
port 110 - POP3 server for outlook - Software dovecot
port 143 - IMAP4 server for outlook - Software dovecot
port 80 - webmail optional - Software HTTPD+squirrelmail+php

If you need secure communication replace
110 with 995 POP3s
143 with 993 IMAPs

Feel free to reply if you need any other info

Thanks for the info, now I just need to install/configure the correct software to get everything running. How do I go about doing this? I've been following that guide that I posted the link to above, but I'm not sure what exactly that will do for me and if I need to do more.

Yes you need to install and configure those software. Can you tell me your distro name? I don't see any guide / tutorial link in your 1st post...

Yeah I forgot to post the link in the 1st post. Looks like I can't post links yet, so I'll have to skip on doing so.

I'm following a guide to install Postfix, and then Dovecot

I'm running Fedora Core 6
