Default CRC Error

Hi,

'm trying to install redhat linux 9.0, with win2000pro. first partition is of ntfs with 30gb space. 'm having single disc of 80gb. partition i created are

/boot ext3 1000mb
/ ext3 10000mb
/home ext3 7000mb
swap 2000mb (as my ram is of 1gb)

installation was going well but an error occured when it was installing openoffice. fatal error shown was of media corrupted. i rebooted the pc, but booting time this was shown:

Compressed Linux...
crc error
-- System Halted

i restarted the pc, booted with win2000 and removed all linux partitions; then tried again with linux installation, but with media check. mediacheck shown me PASSED. but again in the middle of installation same was happend. i rebooted the pc again with installation cd; this was again shown:

Compressed Linux...
crc error
-- System Halted

So, i want to know that what is "crc error" and to what it belongs to and what could be the reson of that.

i need help, somebody's there!

keep my thanks in advance

Well gopal you need to get new cdrom or skip that open office package by customizing installation

Other way to get is Federo core as Red Hat Linux 9 is bit old it is available with many magazine on DVD or try this months PCQlinux based on FC

CRC = Cyclic Redundancy Check
It can occurred almost on any device from modems, networks to hard drivers. Basically it is used to verify the reliability of data. It uses mathematically calculation to detect it. If you are getting errors on CD that means CD has problem, if you are getting errors on hd that means disk has problem. Under windows you can use scandisk and under linux you can use fsck. My guess is when your kernel was installed it might be not installed correctly or your boot loader GRUB/Lilo not installed correctly. In both case you can boot the system into emergency mode and perform the operation.

Hope this put some light ... let me know ...
