Hi there,

also here you can use the command: "setup" to enable services.
Or just enter /etc/init.d/telnet start
If its not yet installed: yum -y install telnet.

But why would you like to use telnet if you can use the much more secure ssh?

Hi,

Please follow the steps to enable the telnet in the RHEL4:
check for the telnet-server rpm is installed by
#rpm -qa | grep telnet-server.
if it not installed. Install it from the RHEL4 fourth CD by
#rpm -ivh telnet-server<version>.rpm.
Then you can enable the telnet service by
#chkconfig telnet on

Recommended to use ssh instead of Telnet. since telnet is not secure.

May be OP is using some old software or scripts which uses rsh or telnet. Generally I agree openssh is much better.
