Strangely, I have never been able to use my Internal modem till date on a Linux box.
The Linux Box ( SuSE 9.3 or RHEL 3) both detect the internal modem( DLink 560 IS+++), but KPPP doesn't seem to recognise the modem. I also dont know the device file to be used. How do I configure Linux to be able to use the modem. lspci shows the modem, but I just dont know what is the correct device file for the modem. Pls help rc |

Internal modem is pain but you need a driver to work with it .. the device file is in /dev directory and it is related to your chip set, so you need to tell us which chipset you are using? lspci --vv or lspci -v output shold give us idea so just post that here

SuSELinux:~ # lspci -v |grep Modem 0000:00:09.1 Serial controller: Agere Systems (former Lucent Microelectronic LT WinModem (prog-if 00 [8250])lsmod doesn't show any thing related to Lucent or Modem. Pls advice what to do..? rc |

Thanks monk,
The page says...SuSE 9.0 and above have inbuilt driver for the LTmodem and I have SuSE 9.3 Pro. I dont know what to do. If it has the driver, what will be the /dev/xxx file that I shall use for KPPP to be able to dial. For that matter, not only LTmodem, what I want to know is that what is the /dev/xxx device file for internal pci modems. rc |

ricc you need /dev/lt_serial for this modem, this device will be only avilable if driver is loaded. Then you need to create a symbolic link:
Code:
/dev/modem --> /dev/tts/LT0 lt_serial lt_modem Then create a symlink then use kppp to dial out
