nixcraft I have followed your transparent squid proxy how-to and have it working with 2 nic's. Thanks for the great how to. I want to know if it is possible to do the same thing with only 1 nic. I need to install the proxy only to monitor where my network users are going. I didn't want to create a problem for the VPN users. I think it can be done but my iptables skills are not great. Do you have any advice to help me get it working. I ask because I am aware of a content filter server that runs on 2003 server in this configuration and I wanted to do the same in Linux.

Could you use the same IP subnet on the 2 nics. If the firewall is .254 and you change it to say .250 then place the squid server eth1 at .254 then eth0 at .253 and have all the traffic sent to .250 (FW)
I don't want to change all the clients browsers thats why I want to use transparent proxy Can the cache be turned off since I only need the server to "log" all the traffic and I don't really need the cache power ? |
