I'm assuming that your sound card is working but you are not able to play any mp3s. To do that you need to install plugins and software. These are not provided by Redhat. Try following tutorial to install all multimedia software on RHEL 5:
Red Hat / CentOS Linux: Enable and Install Media, CD / DVD, Moive MP3 Players
