Default Which Linux OS 32/64 bit would you recommend with a dual boot of 32bit Vista?

Hi there,

I am new to the forums & very new to the Linux world, been using windows for a decade plus.

I installed Ubuntu Hardy on 8.03 & am very impressed.

At the moment I am downloading Open SuSE 11 64 bit.

Being a med doc, my aim is to make a dual boot of Vista with any user friendly form of Linux/Unix.....web caming & professional videoconferencing is my priority too.

I feel so relaxed when I am on my Ubuntu machine than when I am on my Dell XPS laptop.

I use my machines as end user.

Which Linux/Unix OS 32/64 bit would you recommend with a dual boot of 32bit Vista?

Hoping to hear your suggestions & critical views,

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard!

I'd suggest, you get Ubuntu Linux 32 bit version. You can download it from the net. You can easily dual boot with Vista. 32 bit version allows to install and use many multimedia features such as flash easily. Many applications works nicely with 32 bit version.

64 bit version is for server and when you need to address 4GiB or more RAM. Flash and may other stuff will not work smoothly with 64 bit version.

Ubuntu has great community and support!

Thanks,

My Dell laptop has 4 GB of RAM @ 667.....I plan to make a dual boot on that.......memory is not really an issue.

Issues are Cam use on line unlike cheese or camorama.

Do you have a link for Ubuntu Linux.

I am using Ubuntu Hardy 8.4 I find it nice except caming & yahoo messenger lol.

Any how thanks again.

I'm using GYachI Home Page chat client:

This Yahoo! client for Linux operating system supports almost all of the features you would expect to find on the official Windows Yahoo! client: Voice chat, webcams, faders, 'nicknames', audibles, avatars, display images, and more. Yet, it remains very light-weight and memory-friendly. GyachE Improved uses Gtk-2 for its user interfaces (Gtk-2 2.0.6 or better required).
