Default Eth1 up at 10mb?

I cannot get eth1 to come up at 1000mb. It always reverts to 10mb. I've turned autoneg off and it loses communications with other servers.
I've checked the router port, the cables by plugging my laptop in and it always came up at 1000mb.
I've tried:
ethtool -s eth1 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg on - always reverts to 10mb/full
ethtool -s eth1 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off - loses communication

First, speed 1000 REQUIRES autonegotiate, it appers that ethtool is not compatible with your card / nic. Have you tried mii-tool ?

Still no go. I have a ticket opened with RH, but I get the feeling it's a bad network port.

It can pe your NIC, have your tried to swap NIC? Can you tell me NIC name? You may need to pass special kernel / module parameter to Ethernet card driver

I'm embarassed to say but it ended up being my own fault. When I verified the cable by plugging it into my laptop and making sure it came up at a gig.....I checked the wrong cable. Sorry for wasting your time and thanks for the help.
