Default Mounting a "raw" filesystem that has information on it

hello all,
i was wondering if there is a way to mount a "raw" filesystem? the device is a portable hdd, and my friend didnt format the hdd. so when i was examining it to the extent that windows lets me, it said that it was a raw filesystem. windows tells me to format the hdd, and linux tells me it doesnt reconize the filesystem. is there anyway i can mount it and get the data off so i can reformat the drive?

Thanks ya'll.

You need to know file system type before running mount command. Is disk damaged?

it has data on it, and it never was formated. windows labels it as RAW.

The issue was resolved. i used testdisk to recover the data. the only thing that was unable to be recovered was the movies. what i did was make an image to my harddrive, and then load the image with the testdisk program and then analyse it, and copy the data to the external after i reformated it. check out the Testdisk Documentation to get more information on how it works.
