Thread: anyone else play w/cygwin?

I started to gather some stats from our windows servers through the use of cygwin and sshd

is anyone else doing this sort of thing?

interested in some other indicators I should be checking for...

So you want to monitor windows host via cygwin?

start off with monitoring.
you could easily leverage existing unix monitoring scripts to watch your key windows servers.

if they are sqlservers, cygwin would provide for tsql sessions.

got the idea, when one of the developers introduced us to cygwin for improved job flow.

I see; I never used cygwin for monitoring or porting existing shell or perl scripts to windows. We are basically a UNIX shop. However, we do have departmental Windows 2008/2003 servers (around 200 servers). And we use nagios to keep an eye on those boxes. We monitor:

• Memory usage
• CPU load
• Disk usage
• Service states
• Running processes
• and much more...

Have you tried out nagios? It may save lots of time in a long run. But if your setup is small and it is not going to scale in near future than cygwin can help too.
