Hi,
Let me start by saying i am new to the redhat family. I am used to simpel Opensuse installs and the occasional ubuntu install. Now i am starting a Redhat enterprise install and i get stuck at the prompt sorta say. i printed out the RHN Quick STart Guide and at the start it says i have to register to their network to get an activation key. The first thing it says is to run up2date --register as root. But when i do that, i get " bash permission denied. ???? Then someone suggested to use the old command " rhn_register --proxy= This produces a screen that starts connecting to "https://xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com/xmlrpc" After awhile i get an error that asks if the URL is correct. I dont know where to set the URL myself, so i guess its ok. Anyone got any ideas? Am i starting this the wrong way??... or is that URL not correct maybe? Thnx in advance |

according to mether aka rahul sundaram from freenode? RH's stand for paid linux and support is right. it has to support who work for redhat. else you may try centos, whitebox or wbel, centos server, blah blah. or best, install rh9, upgrade it from the old repo and grab the srpms and redesign the WS or EL you like even AS. the srpms are available in the redhat ftp server. and IIRC you need to buy subscription else change the repo to dag wieers or rpm bone or livna. but i doubt if these will work with RHWS, RHEL, RHAS because the field contains rh and not centos. good luck anyway.

because your are not regestered with red hat dats why is is showing you permission denied. for up-todate command firstly you will have to fet registered your system with Redhat.
then there is a script which you will have to run before running uptodate command. for that script I have not that much knowledge but it is something boot.*** I dont know really so for that you can contact REDHAT. |
