Default Downloading Linux distro or kernel from indian mirror sites

Most of us have 256kbps or above DSL connection. We get CDs from friend, LUG or magazines; however when it comes to kernel upgrade or download, security updates or even specific packages then you need to download them from Internet. Here are some secrets to get packages quickly

1) Get it from Indian mirror site
Yup we do have mirror for Linux distro such as whitebox, Debian and kernel itself. Fire your browser and type
Code:
www.in.kernel.org

OR ftp site

ftp ftp.iitm.ac.in
Note above two address are same.

For example when I started to download 2.6.13.2 kernel from kernel.org I got speed around 22-25K/s but with ftp.iitm.ac.in My speed touched around 30-35K/s i.e. almost 8-10K/s fast.

All following Latest Linux Distro and security updates from fast indian mirros site hosted by our own IIT Madras.
Linux Documentation Project howtos and guides
Linux kernel source, patches and documentation
Debian Linux Complete distro and updates
Fedora Linux distro and updates
Mandrake linux
Cent OS
Suse Linux
and many more just visit to get updates.
2) Some other project too have indian mirror for example in.php.net
3) If mirror does not exists then select neraest mirror such as Taiwan
4) Option is get CDs itself from friend, book, computer magazines such as digit or pcquest, or local LUG.

Note if anyone sells low cost CDs then please email us; we are creating list region wise along with contact number so that others can purchase cds. Our email id at http://cyberciti.biz/fb/. Only send your request if you are selling CD in India.

Update: Read how to setup mirror using apt-setup or other tools @ http://www.cyberciti.biz/nixcraft/vi...-security.html

Hope this helps
