by default it should recognise your usb stick yar..
can you give fdisk -l output here? so that we can check your USB detected properly or not.. and one more thing.. if ur USB is formated with ntfs it will be bit complicated.. so when ever you formate your USB formate with FAT32.. so that it can be accessed by both Windows and Linux easily..
