Thread: RHEL 5 low performance on AMD Opteron Processor

Hi,

We have HP DL385 server with AMD OPteron processor loaded with RHEL 5 X64. We are facing CPU utilization issue.

Whenever we run any app or shell and execute any command CPU utilization is high and runs on only one core at any given point. Load keep changing between all cores.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you have SMP kernel loaded? Run the following command to verify that you have SMP kernel loaded:

The kernel version is Linux 2.6.18-53.el5xen

Did you saw SMP as output in above command?

This is normal. Use a better tool for monitoring cpu load such as atop:
