Thumbs down CentOS Linux Kernel Patch Update

How to patch kernel upgrade to kernel patch-2.6.26.3

i given the command patch -p1 <patch-2.6.26.3

after that one message comming i.e

patching file a/Documentation/ftrace.txt
can't find file to patch at input line 1364
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:

You need Linux souce code installed under /usr/src/ directory. Do you really need to patch kernel from source code? Can you tell me your Linux disto name? Most of us patch kernel using binary method, followed by reboot. It will not just save time but it is tested by many.

am using centos 5.1 existing kernel is 2.6.18-53.el5

pls give proper procedure... waiting for your response..

I was able to see your post. Sorry, for trouble. I'm looking into anti-spam plugin so that it can ignore trusted users. Right now it is giving out more trouble. It was suppose to block spammers but it is working against us.. LOL. Thanks for pointing out.
