Default Red Hat Linux open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory

Hello,

'm a new to Linux. My system is RHEL 5.

on running fbset command, 'm getting "open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory" error.
I tried adding "vga=ask" in grub.conf but still no /dev/fb0 file is made by system after rebooting it.

grub.conf:
# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
# root (hd0,0)
# kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
# initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/sda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (2.6.18-8.el5)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-8.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet vga=ask
initrd /initrd-2.6.18-8.el5.img

System info:
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP Fri Jan 26 14:15:21 EST 2007 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Kindly suggest how can I make /dev/fb0 file ?
Thanks in advance...

Regards,
-Rahs

You need to select screen mode while booting by pressing Enter key. You need to interrupt current booting sequence by hitting esc key.

Not all video cards support the kernel framebuffer mode and may need special drivers. Do you know the make of your video card?
