ntpd error in Redhat linux

Default ntpd error in Redhat linux

I am getting the following error in /var/log/messages

Jul 24 18:15:01 UAPP03 ntpd[21482]: bind() fd 4, family 2, port 123, addr
0.0.0.0, in_classd=0 flags=8 fails: Address already in use
Jul 24 18:15:01 UAPP03 ntpd[21482]: bind() fd 4, family 10, port 123, addr
::, in6_is_addr_multicast=0 flags=0 fails: Address already in use
Jul 24 18:15:01 UAPP03 ntpd[21482]: bind() fd 4, family 2, port 123, addr
127.0.0.1, in_classd=0 flags=0 fails: Address already in use
Jul 24 18:15:01 UAPP03 ntpd[21482]: bind() fd 4, family 2, port 123, addr
10.13.20.84, in_classd=0 flags=8 fails: Address already in use


my OS is redhat linux
after enabling ntpd in my server it started coming. can anyone help me in rectifying this..

have you tried:

tried that as well... but no luck.. can u tell y this error is coming?
is it related to any config error???

It looks like some app is already using udp port 123 on your machine. Just check whether another instance of ntpd is already running on your system. You can also run the following command:
# netstat -n -f inet |grep 123
to find out the application that is using port 123

hi

when am issuing /etc/init.d/ntpd stop , the ntpd stops and when am issuing /etc/init.d/ntpd start .it starts with both
"ntp" user as well as "root" can you tell y this is happening?

root 9766 9763 0 23:11 ? 00:00:00 ntpd -u ntp:ntp -p /var/run/ntpd.pid -g
ntp 10135 10132 0 23:15 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/ntpd -q -u ntp:ntp
root 10154 10135 0 23:15 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/ntpd -q -u ntp:ntp
