Thread: Data storage in data center

hi there...
one of my client is requesting me to deploy a environment where their data storage demands increases with time and the system should handle that and also RAID and want that file online for later use(Online means inside LAN).
let me be clear they mostly have files with 1-2GB and some above 5GB. so they have a high storage demand..
please i am null about this call...i don't think just using some hard disk with RAID will meet the requirement..
i also planned of using tower RAID but unclear about that.
please give me some suggestions...it would be of great help
i am interested in storage technology in data centres..may be it will be of help

I would suggest you to use raid 1+0 (on a hardware controller) + large SAS hard drives. Search google for a "raid calculator", which could help you do the math. Check out as well for a "RAID Drive Cage", as opposite to tower RAID, which is something, that you may not need at this time. Have you considered cluster or cloud technology as well? Also, are there going to be remote backups? If the answer is YES, then you should consider a NAS solution too.

For large SAN/NAS storage devices, I would recommend you to check "dothill", and for hardware RIDE controllers "3ware".

well i haven't consider NAS as the solution to the problem because i currently have deployed SAMBA for data storage and accessing but the main thing is their data storage demand goes on increasing as their single file sometimes exceeds 5Gb..
and i want a technology or a process that can address this increasing demand with a RAID technology...

Look for an "disk array" solution or consider using cluster technology. Contact me further if you want me to give you links on disk array solutions, that may help you. Currently, I don't have enough posts to be able to post the links in this topic....
